James Karau is a born again Christian. He is a gifted speaker and trainer. He is the founder and MD of Jimkar Consultants that is devoted to personal and organizational development. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Kenyatta University, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Nairobi, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Sociology from Egerton University. He is a Senior Lecturer at Machakos University in the School of Business and Economics. He has previously worked at Daystar University, where he served as a Senior Lecturer, Dean of Students, a member of the University Council, Senate, and Management Board. Besides teaching, he is a consultant with several organizations in strategic planning, research, leadership and governance training, curriculum development, and cooperative movement. He has participated in several other research projects and has published books and several journal articles in peer-reviewed journals. He sits on several boards and committees.
